The planning application for an eight-screen cinema and four restaurants is now scheduled to be decided by the council planning committee on Wednesday 16 July.
Our Brighton Hippodrome asked to speak at the meeting but were refused.
Our detailed objection to the developer’s viability study was withheld from the District Valuation Office on the grounds that we are a local community/pressure group and not a professional or specialist body. We’ve got more theatre, cinema, finance, planning and architecture specialists in our ranks than the planning committee has members! But we are not allowed to share our knowledge, expertise and experience with the elected members.
Why? Isn’t an informed decision in the best interests of the city and the community? Obviously not.
The committee meets at 2:00pm in the council chamber at Hove Town Hall.
We’ll be there, whether we’re allowed to speak or not.
